The 10-mile I-10 West Light Rail Extension will connect the greater West Valley to the existing Valley Metro Rail System in west Phoenix, and include 6 new light rail stations. Following robust community and stakeholder engagement led by the Ardurra team, a series of big ideas were developed for each of the 6 new stations to guide future redevelopment within a walkable 1/2 mile radius of each station. Big ideas proposed included a re-imagined Desert Sky mall and Talking Stick Amphitheater, new compact urban mixed use centers near each station, higher density affordable housing with structured parking, shaded street and walk connections to existing neighborhoods, finer grained park typologies connected by secondary pedestrian network, and other improvements. These ideas were presented to residents, stakeholder and city leaders through a series of community engagement efforts, and very well received. These improvements will form the basis for new policies and framework that will enable redevelopment to occur over the next 25 years, creating a more vibrant and connected west corridor.
