Located in southeast Cairo, Mokattam Hill was an undeveloped suburb of Cairo, offering spectacular views of the city and region. A master plan was prepared for the property, including 7 distinct residential villages, a town center, a shopping center and a golf course. The unique topography of the site required a detailed topographic and slope analysis to preserve natural drainage corridors and minimize cut and fill. In addition to land use, circulation and open space strategies, a hierarchy of street typologies, including parkways, village center, loop road, hillside and neighborhood streets were developed, providing for safe bike and pedestrian access throughout. A large-scale physical model, renderings and fly through animation were also prepared for the project.  At full build out, the master plan provides new homes for approximately 100,000 people.
